First and foremost, the service (to-go) is impeccable. Every time I order online and walk in to pick up my order, it’s already on the counter waiting for me. No extra waiting?! I love it. The staff always greets me with a smile which is really nice.

Atmosphere: it’s giving Caribbean vibes for sure. I like the aesthetic so much and I never really sat down & ate inside but I will in the near future.

Food: I’m on the quest to find the best jerk chicken in the city. Right now, they’re not the best I’ve had but they’re still really good. I love the vegan jollof rice and the sweet & spicy plantains. I could eat that by itself, no meat needed. The portions are nice size especially if you don’t want something super heavy for lunch. I recommend getting a bowl and adding whatever you like.

It’s a spot near my place of work & a spot I’ll be eating at from time to time. The food, portions, atmosphere, and customer service is bomb.

I’m a regular customer at Baobab Fare and would often ride past your restaurant, thinking I’d stop in at Yum Village one day. Unfortunately, the service was bad. The cashier’s attitude was poor. She was extremely dry. Maybe having someone who possesses more personality and soft skills would be more beneficial. Since shes the individuals first point of contact for your company. I had never been there before, so I wasn’t too familiar with the menu. I can honestly say I’ve never felt so much pressure or been rushed to order food in my life. I was there with my daughters, and there was a group of men being loud, making derogatory and explicit comments about women. I asked the cashier if someone could wipe the table where my kids and I wanted to sit, and her response was, “When I get a chance,” with the same attitude and negative disposition she had when taking my order.

Also, aside from the difference in the shape of the containers, there’s no noticeable difference in the portion size between a lunch and dinner meal. The food was okay, but it was my first and last time dining there.

This is the third and final time that I have ordered yum village in the last 10 months. I kept ordering my “usual” in hopes that the last disappointment was a fluke. The jerk chicken was burnt beyond consumption the first time. The second time it was also over cooked but not nearly as much as the previous. There also was no jerk sauce on the chicken. This last time was actually the best cooked of the three but there was still no jerk sauce. The portion of the sweet and spicy plantain has supremely diminished. There used to be like a sweet sauce drizzled on top, that’s gone. The smoked pepper fries are now clearly frozen fries with a little black pepper thrown on top. Every dish that I used to order consistently has gone down in flavor, quality, and care. The folks at the counter are still kind, but the food has disappointed me for the last time.

The healthiest meal I've had out in months.
The staff are very friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The only complaint I could come up with is a lack of old-style, physical menus. I find them easier to browse than the tablet-based version.
The ordering system is on said tablet, broken down into various categories but not particularly logical or easily discernable. So, I started at the first and dug through all until I found what I wanted. Then it was simple & straightforward. Even a spot to add notes about spice level or leaving out certain things. Prices are shown, usually a range, that covers the different size portions.
A note: all electronic payments, no cash. And everything is bagged up to go even if you are eating in. Odd, but at least the bag is paper & thus recyclable.
The instrumental music was a nice accompaniment to the meal but one of the speakers seemed to be blown, it had trouble with the low notes.
I ordered the curry chicken, 12 oz portion, which was $16 + tax. Flavorful, tender, lots of colorful and tasty vegetables. I wish I had requested spicier but I'll know next time. And I would've loved some rice or bread to soak up all that delicious liquid so I didn't have to finish it like a bowl if soup without a spoon. ?
I honestly would love to eat here nearly every week were it closer and bit less expensive. That being said, I suspect I've found my first "go to" restaurant in downtown Detroit.
