Kazumi is a lovely pop up restaurant with an intimate space and attentive service. The menu is small but every dish is wonderfully designed with unique flavor pairings. Half of their menu is vegan-friendly.

Spoiler alert: they will open a permanent location in June/July!

*Chicken Karaage***
This chicken karaage was TO DIE FOR — the caramelized sugar lemon on the side took it to a whole new level. The boneless chicken was so tender and juicy with a thin deep-fried batter. The meat was extremely refreshing after squeezing the lemon and dipping in honey mustard sauce.

* Handrolls - Salmon Yuzu, Tuna, Yellowtail**
Y’all need to order their handrolls! The sashimi piece was thick and long enough to cover the vinegar rice. It would be a pain to pick which handroll I like more. They layered up the flavors of each piece with house sauces, shiso leaf, fried leek, avocado etc. Wish they would add a handroll set in the future.

*Pork Cutlet Curry
The curry was a blend of shredded meat, mashed potatoes, tomatoes and grapes (yes grapes!). The pork loin cutlets were crispy and not heavily breaded. The meat was a bit dry, yet it was cut in thin slices so it didn’t bother me much. I found the multigrain rice even more enjoyable than white rice with its crunchiness.

*Matcha Crème Brûlée**
WE LOVED THIS. Matcha flavor is strong. The caramelized top and creamy matcha custard complemented really well. Trust me, their crème brûlée is the best dessert to finish off your meal.

*Vegan Matcha Cheesecake
This cheesecake was homey and light. Matcha flavor was tasteable but not very strong. The raspberry compote added a nice touch to it. I liked the crunchy biscuit layer on the bottom.

*Virgin Green Tea Mojito
Their Japanese-inspired mocktails were great and not too sweet (very rare for mocktails). Very refreshing to drink along with your meal.

I dropped by on a rainy evening with a friend after seeing their sign on the street and watching vids on Instagram.

I had the following:
Chicken Karaage marinated in umami sauce with caramelized sugar lemon was so crunchy and juicy.

The fried batter was super crispy and the meat was tender. The umami sauce was very flavorful but it wasn’t salty or dry. I had forgotten that it was boneless so not having bones to pick out was a lovely surprise.

Homemade pan-fried pork gyoza
The Pork Gyoza came out on a cute plate, freshly panfried. Each dumpling had a good amount of filling consisting of pork, chives, and (maybe) onions. The soy sauce went well with it but I found the dumplings to be good just on their own.

The Hijiki salad: I had two fried items already, so the salad was a good palate cleanser. The seaweed had a slightly slippery texture and the mouthfeel was springy, then crunchy. Mixed with the vegetables on the bottom, I felt healthy with just a few bites.

The salmon inside the handroll was fresh and the yuzu sauce inside was a tart surprise. The nori didn’t sag and was crunchy with every bite.

The vegan unagi hand roll made with eggplant glazed with teriyaki sauce tasted exactly like real unagi eel.

This, I did not expect. I had expected that eggplant taste and texture but when I bit into it, I thought I had ordered real fish sans the bones. The sauce was appropriately sweet and I appreciated the vegan option.

The rich pork katsu curry was so creamy and the crunchy cutlet was surprisingly tender inside.

If I heard correctly, the restaurant uses Wagyu beef for their curry stock, so it was extra savory. I think the curry had a dash of some dairy in it as well because it was super creamy. With the tender katsu and the multigrain rice, the curry was a great meal.

The tonkotsu ramen with a rich 12-hour pork broth, melt-in-your mouth chashu and the chewy noodle warmed my soul.

The ramen broth was quite something. It wasn’t heavy or gamey at all - the chashu’s cooked for six hours. It was a melt in your mouth type of deal. The noodles were on the firm/al dente side which I really appreciated. Great choice as well.

I’m waiting for them to open at a larger location so that I can visit again with a bigger group.

Very quiet place with great Japanese atmosphere. Pork cutlet curry with grapes on the side is a such a genius match! This place is a pretty healthy, light and clean choice. No spicy options on the menu. No restroom.
Takeout bag was nicely folded into a beautiful shape✨such a sweet gesture!!

I recently visited the newly opened Kazumi Pop-Up in NYC and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. Despite its small and simple appearance, I felt warmly welcomed and comfortable from the moment I stepped in.

One of the servers recommended a non-alcoholic drink called "Zesty Celery Sawa" and it was a delightful surprise. I had never tried anything like it before and it was absolutely delicious.

For appetizers, I ordered the pork gyoza and it quickly became my favorite dish at this restaurant. The dumplings were perfectly cooked and the flavors were outstanding. I also tried the vegan hand roll and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it was executed. The way they shaped the vegan ingredients into a hand roll was perfection.

Moving on to the main course, I ordered the "Tonkotsu" and it was nothing short of amazing. The pork was incredibly tender and the broth was packed with flavor. I couldn't get enough of it.

Throughout my dining experience, the server was extremely friendly and attentive. They made sure that I had everything I needed and their recommendations were spot on. Their hospitality added to the overall positive experience.

I can confidently say that I will be returning to Kazumi Pop-Up again in the future. The combination of great food, cozy atmosphere, and friendly staff makes it a must-visit spot for Japanese cuisine lovers in NYC.

ordered their popular pork cutlet w curry, and karaage! their portions are huge, between the 3 of us we could’ve shared 2 plates. but we wished the pork cutlet was juicier, seemed a bit dry. the added touch of grapes was nice in our curry though :). nothing special but always wanted to check out this restaurant since we were in the area!

some of the best shoyu chicken ramen i’ve had. it was so light but flavorful. they also gave us a vegan salmon roll for free which was very nice (and also quite good). the karaage was fine but the gyoza were amazing.

the waiter said this was basically a soft opening while they wait for their larger space to be ready. i look forward to them having an official space.

Small place, we ordered all vegetarian options on the menu. Didn't really enjoy the food, found it a bit bland. I've had great vegetarian Japanese curry before so I know it can be better. Staff were nice and attentive.

Great food / Love the vibe
I recommend vegan curry served with plant based cutlet and eight kinds grain rice were amazing, pork gyoza is also yummy, All the hand rolls: tuna, salmon yuzu and vegan salmon are delicious. Celery sawa mocktails is so good. Highly recommended!
