My friend and I decided to check out Island Pops around 1:30pm on a Saturday to try their unique ice cream flavors! There is no seating area, so that may be something to consider with the blazing summer heat.

I got the soursop ($6.24), and my friend got ovaltine ($6.24 + 0.52 for sugar cone). Regarding the heat issue, my friend's cone started melting like crazy as soon as we exited the shop, making it a little harder to eat. Flavor-wise, we sampled different flavors before settling on the ones we picked, and I will say the flavors are unique! I cannot speak to their authenticity, but it did seem like effort was put into creating the flavors. Texture-wise, the ice cream was slightly less creamy than my ideal texture, but that's more personal preference.

Customer service was fantastic! I asked a lot of questions to know the flavor profiles, and everyone in the store was extremely welcoming, helpful, and non-judgmental. The descriptions were also on-point! Overall, if you're open to trying new Caribbean flavors, head over to Island Pops!

Get their vegan banana bread and pair it with their Island Coconut ice cream - heaven on earth! I’m not even remotely vegan. Seems they have wide variety of seasonal flavors, so I tried this combo a few months back but forgot to post about it. Returned again today for a pint to go, sorrel rum is one of my favorites here but I decided to try the black cake flavor just because I picked up a slice of black cake from Royal Bakery down the street… ended up pairing very nicely!! Was pleasantly surprised by the generous chunks of black cake in the ice cream… arguably as good or better than Royal Bakery (our little secret!). Never tried a flavor I didn’t like, and they’ll kindly let you try a few before deciding, and give good personalized recommendations. Small counter with a bench and bistro table outside to enjoy on a nice day. Please support these lovely people on Nostrand Ave.

I’ve been craving rum and raisin ice cream like back home in Guyana. And the one here didn’t disappoint — it tastes just like home’s, just not as sweet which was perfect because I also had the homemade banana bread, which was so divine. There’s outdoor seating, and you can get ice cream (including non-dairy) in a cup, cone, or to take home.

Decided to patronize Island Pops after reviewing their website and marketing materials. As a Trini I wanted to support this business and get well made naturally flavored ice cream for an event I was hosting. i purchased several flavors- Guinness, souprsop, rum and raisin, passion fruit and the sorrel sorbet.
While the service was good- prompt and courteous, the critique that my guests and I had regards the lack of pronounced flavor of these ice creams.
All of the flavors were too subtle. We conducted blind taste tests to see if we could identify these flavors that are well known to the West Indian palate. Guests struggled to identify all of the flavors except for sorrel.
If your clientele includes West Indians who know and love these tropical fruit flavors, they need to be more forward and pronounced.
I’ve read through some other reviews and see this issue of flavoring appearing repeatedly. You have a good idea, it could be great if it truly reflected the flavors we know and love.

Refreshing, delicious and non-standard flavor ice creams. The Nutmeg scoop was insane and is one of the best scoops I have ever had. It had the real nutmeg taste that I remember from my childhood growing up where nutmeg grew.

Sorrel rum (vegan) was also really good and unique with a fresh hibiscus and fruity notes with what felt like small spike of rum.

The staff is really friendly and allows unlimited sampling. Prices are good ($9 for 3 big scoops or $8.50 for 4 medium sampler scoops). The ice cream was creamy and allowed the flavor to stand out as it wasn't too sweet.

The soursop and grapenut were also good.
